Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, evidence-based form of talking therapy that combines structured psychotherapy with guided hypnosis to support positive change.

Rather than focusing on problems or spending long periods revisiting the past, this approach works by helping the brain move out of chronic stress and threat responses, creating the conditions needed for clarity, calm, and forward movement.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural, everyday state that we all experience — for example when absorbed in a film, driving on autopilot, or daydreaming. It is often described as a state of focused attention where the mind becomes more receptive, while you remain aware and in control throughout.

Many people experience hypnosis as deeply relaxing, similar to a calm, inward-focused state between waking and sleep. Everyone’s experience is slightly different, and there is no “right” way to feel.

How solution focused hypnotherapy works

In sessions, I use a combination of gentle discussion, psychoeducation, and guided hypnosis to support change at both a conscious and subconscious level.

Much of how we think, feel, and behave is shaped by automatic patterns stored within the subconscious mind. These patterns often develop to protect us, but over time they can become unhelpful or limiting. Hypnotherapy provides a way to work with these deeper responses, allowing new, more supportive patterns to develop.

During hypnosis, the mind is able to gain perspective, soften unhelpful beliefs, and reinforce positive change — sometimes experienced as noticeable shifts, and sometimes as gradual improvements that build steadily over time.

A neuroscience-based approach

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy draws heavily on neuroscience, particularly how the brain responds to stress and emotional overload. By helping calm the nervous system and reducing threat-based responses, the brain becomes more able to think clearly, regulate emotions, and move towards solutions.

This structured, forward-focused approach often means therapy can feel practical, contained, and effective, without being overwhelming.

A focus on solutions

Crucially, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on what you want to achieve, rather than dwelling on what has gone wrong. While your experiences are always respected, the emphasis is on supporting you to move forward in a way that feels manageable, empowering, and aligned with your goals.

Sessions are always tailored to you, at your pace, and shaped around what feels most supportive for your individual situation.
