Reiki Therapy

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on (or hands-off) therapeutic practice that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It is often described as a deeply calming and restorative experience, supporting the body’s natural capacity to rest, rebalance, and recover.

Many people come to Reiki when they are feeling overwhelmed, depleted, emotionally raw, or disconnected from themselves. Others seek it during periods of stress, illness, grief, transition, or simply as a way to slow down and restore equilibrium.

A Reiki session involves you lying fully clothed on a treatment couch while gentle, non-invasive touch is used to support relaxation and nervous system regulation. Some people experience warmth, softness, a sense of grounding, or deep rest. Others simply notice that they feel calmer, clearer, or more settled afterwards. Every experience is individual.

While Reiki is sometimes described as an “energy therapy”, its effects are often felt in very practical ways — through improved rest, reduced tension, emotional easing, and a greater sense of balance. Many people find it profoundly supportive, particularly when words feel insufficient or when the body itself is holding stress.

Reiki does not involve diagnosis, manipulation, or belief. You do not need to “try” or “do” anything — the session simply offers space for your system to settle.

Reiki as a standalone therapy

Reiki sessions are offered as a standalone therapeutic approach and are not combined with hypnotherapy sessions. Some clients are drawn to talking therapy, while others prefer a quieter, non-verbal form of support. Both approaches are equally valid, and we can discuss what feels most appropriate for you.

My Reiki training and approach

I practise Reiki within a traditional Usui Reiki framework, grounded in respect for the origins of the practice and its ethical foundations. My training draws on both Eastern and Western Reiki traditions, with an emphasis on presence, integrity, and compassionate, client-centred care.

My approach is calm, respectful, and non-invasive. Sessions are shaped to support relaxation, balance, and nervous system regulation, and many people describe Reiki as deeply soothing or restorative.

My practice is informed by a lineage that traces back to Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, and reflects a long tradition of mindful, heart-centred practice — while remaining accessible, grounded, and relevant to modern life.

The Reiki Principles

At the heart of Reiki are five simple principles, often referred to as the Reiki Precepts. They are traditionally reflected on daily and offer a quiet philosophy for living:

Just for today,
I will not worry
I will not be angry
I will be grateful
I will do my work honestly
I will be kind to every living thing

These principles are not rules, but gentle reminders — supporting presence, compassion, and balance in everyday life.

Practical details

Reiki sessions are currently offered in person, and I am able to travel to clients where appropriate. I bring my own massage table, and sessions take place in a quiet, comfortable space within your home, allowing you to relax fully and feel supported.
